What happens when we achieve a universal human goal? The Viking mission to Mars of 1975/1976 was the greatest exploratory achievement of the time, and remains the most robust and broad examination of planet Mars to this day, changing how we see humanity in the context of living and innovating on and off Earth.

Join us as Intel Alumna Rachel Tillman, the Founder/Director of The Viking Mars Missions Education & Preservation Project (VMMEPP) and award winning Space Historian and Educator, inventor, published writer, and the daughter of one of the members of the original Viking Mission Team, shares how we achieved these “audacious” computing, engineering, science, and political feats using 1970s technology.

Returning from a cross country Speaking Tour of 12,000+ miles, she brings updates from Vikings who attended her talks at NASA Langley, JPL, Houston, Melbourne FL, Albuquerque NM, and more.

Viking represents the bleeding edge of not just science investigation and engineering, but also computing, organizational, and leadership models. It is the very foundation of the formal “Search for Life” movement and the astrobiology field, as well as the first data and system of record for more than 10 science investigative fields that grew from the Viking mission.
